Garrett GTW Series: Powerful and affordable
Price-conscious tuning enthusiasts will get their money's worth with the GTW series turbos. With them, Garrett has brought turbochargers onto the market that are powerful and have optimal boost pressure behavior. The "W" in the name, which stands for wider flow range, already indicates that great importance is attached to high throughput and perfect response.
These turbos already have the milled, forged compressor wheel with eleven blades and the perfectly matched high-flow compressor housing, which is provided with openings. This gives it high shock resistance and continuous power across the entire power range. The GTW turbine wheel is made of the extremely heat-resistant Inconel material, which makes the turbos tough and durable.
What you should know about the GTW turbochargers
If you are thinking about an exchange, you should know the following points:
- GTW bearing housings are larger than those on the GT-R and GTX turbochargers, so you cannot use them on the GTW.
- The oil lines (both supply and return) of the plain bearing GTW series are different from those of the GT-R and GTX series.
- The oil drain plugs of the ball bearing GTW turbochargers are not the same as those of the GTX and GT-R turbos.
